Just finished watching the Darrin Appleton vs. Dennis Hatch Action Challenge match live on TAR.  By the way, Hatch is an absolute monster.  He won a race to 100 in 10-ball 100 to 83.  While chatting online with one of my pool player buddies I was reminded I wanted to do a post on the terminology used in the pool player community.  Tonight I started that page as an ongoing project.  It’s short now but it will grow as I add to it.  Eventually, growing to the definitive and exhaustive resource for all the pool player lingo not strictly spelled with just 4 letters.

It will always be available as a primary link at the bottom of this page (see the tab at the bottom that says “Pool Player”).  But since this is an announcement post I guess I better provide a link to it here.

You probably don’t want to take everything you read on that page as the gospel.  Given that I’m going to let pool players make additions and edits to it…  A certain degree of lying inaccuracy should be expected.

Work pressures to move the schedule-progress slider to the right are mounting.  I still believe that the best tool to use for part of our project is still a functional approach but it’s pretty clear that I can’t develop enough expertise in the limited time to be a functional programming expert.  I also feel that I’m incredibly close to having the proverbial light “go on” too, so I’m still studying at home.  I just won’t be devoting work time to it in the immediate future.

I do know a guy that’d be a fantastic FP subject matter expert.  I wonder what I need to do to entice him back into this environment?

Making and maintaining friendships is relatively high on my priority list.  After, 43 years of life so far, you’d think I’d have figured out that not everyone I consider a friend thinks the same of me.  Not that I’m the easiest guy in the world to be friends with; I’m consistently abrasive (albeit mostly in jest) and have a flaring temper with a fairly moody side.  I’m not “Mr. Jovial”.  I don’t think I’m 100% asshole either.

Don’t get me wrong, I have genuine long-term friends.  I know I can go to certain people (outside my family) and they’re gonna be there if I need’em.  But, it’s when I drop the mental-ball and get it wrong that I’m reminded that if I disappeared without a trace, my absence wouldn’t leave a hole for someone I was thinking was a buddy.  Invitations consistently turned down, calls and emails un-responded to…  “I wonder why so-and-so isn’t returning my…  Uh-oh.”   That snap, back into reality, is a bit embarrassing.

I know we’ve all experienced it and I’m guessing that my reaction to it is similar to most.  (You know, binge drinking and crying snot-bubbles.  No, no…  I don’t do that.  I key their car.)  I’m determined that the next time it happens, I’m not going to be as surprised.
